The Outside Drum Friction Tester evaluates the friction characteristics of a test piece on a road surface outside a rotating drum,gets the test piece to contact the drum at a specified load,applies a slip ratio.

The torque applied to the test piece when a test is conducted under such conditions is used to measure the friction force. The drum surface can be used to form a simulated wet or dry road surface conditions.
